Inside Uganda’s Biometric Voter Verification Kit: What Voters Need to Know Ahead of Jan. 15 Election

Since Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) announced that it would deploy a revamped biometric voter verification kit (BVVK) system as part of its digital public infrastructure (DPI) for the 2026 general elections, several voices have questioned the decision to use the equipment and its system.

In a bid to calm the public’s fears, the EC organised a mock public demonstration at the EC headquarters on Seventh Street in the Kampala City Industrial Area on December 17, 2025, to demonstrate how the BVVK machines will work during the coming election.
