Menterprise Africa, a Uganda-based pan-African social enterprise, has teamed up with other community-oriented capacity-building organizations from Kenya and Uganda to co-host a webinar on sustainable revenue models for non-profits.

The webinar, a brainchild of Ubuntu Development Solution from Kenya, will offer tips and resources to East Africa’s social entrepreneurship community on how to continuously raise funds despite the recent blows to non-profit funding since the start of 2025 when the US government dismantled its development aid programme.

The Founder and Executive Director of Ubuntu Development Solution, Ms Nafula Kisiang’ani, said the webinar is a practical training session where social enterprises learn how to establish sustainable revenue models in their organizations.

“This training is an opportunity for leaders of social enterprises to learn how to re-think and re-engineer their organization models towards sustainability and to establish sustainable revenue models in their organizations,” said Ms Kisiang’ani, a social justice advocate and finance & development practitioner who will lead the training.

The webinar, held under the theme, “innovative revenue for sustainability, is scheduled for Thursday, June 17, from 4pm to 5pm East African time (EAT) on the Google Meet platform. You can participate in the session by clicking on this video call link.

Ms Kisiang’ani, whose organization offers services like organizational capacity building, project management, and organizational financial systems management, among others, says that she intends to use the session to help leaders of organizations move donor-dependent revenue models to more sustainable ones that drive real and lasting impact in the social enterprise ecosystem.

“Previously, most non-profit organizations depended on donor money to finance their activities. People would register such organizations to either partner with donors or to get donor money. However, with the evolution of donor funding models and the closure of some funding agencies like USAID, social enterprises need to look inward for solutions. This training will help leaders of non-profit organizations to identify and seize the opportunities within our local development ecosystem,” Ms Kisiang’ani explained.

Ms Nafula Kisiang’ana speaks at the launch of a strategy plan that Ubunte Development Solution designed for the YALI RLC EA – Alumni Chapter of Kenya.

Participants will also hear from representatives of Menterprise Africa (Uganda) and Data Horizon (Rwanda) about how they support social enterprises within their respective countries and beyond to develop the capacity to serve their target beneficiaries. Speakers from the three organizations will also discuss their efforts to develop mentorship and training resources, and to grow a network of social enterprises across the East African region that can support each other to succeed.
