The Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), through the EAC Scholarship Programme, has opened applications for Cohort 4 of its KfW-funded Master’s scholarships.
The programme supports academically talented students from EAC Partner States to pursue Master’s studies in another EAC country, with the aim of developing future leaders and strengthening regional integration.
The scholarships cover two years of study and provide financial support ranging from tuition and living expenses to travel, medical insurance and study-related costs.
Up to 120 scholarships are available in this cohort.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected scholars will receive:
- Full tuition fees paid directly to the host university.
- One return economy-class air ticket between the scholar’s home and host countries.
- EUR 200 arrival allowance.
- EUR 380 monthly stipend for accommodation, meals, local transport and other living expenses.
- EUR 650 allowance for study materials.
- EUR 1,500 one-time study and research allowance.
- Medical insurance for the duration of the scholarship.
- Visa or entry fees where applicable.
- Participation in at least one extracurricular event.
- Leadership development, mentoring, networking and regional integration opportunities.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of one of the eight eligible EAC Partner States: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania or Uganda.
- Be below 35 years of age at the time of application.
- Apply to study in an EAC Partner State other than their country of citizenship.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division, Distinction or an equivalent qualification.
- Have applied for admission to an eligible Master’s programme at a participating university.
- Submit a complete scholarship application within the application period.
Female applicants, persons with disabilities and applicants from other disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. The programme aims for at least 50% female participation among beneficiaries.

The scholarships support approved Master’s programmes in:
- Mathematics
- Engineering
- Informatics
- Science
- Technology
- Business-related disciplines
Applicants must choose an approved programme offered by a participating university in an EAC Partner State other than their country of citizenship.
