Menterprise Africa is excited to host the second edition of Menterprise Talks, a platform that brings together experienced industry practitioners and emerging innovators for practical conversations around building and scaling ideas.
Following the inaugural virtual edition in February, this new session marks the first time Menterprise Talks moves into a physical space. The event will be live-streamed for virtual participants, with registration open for both in-person and online attendance.
The upcoming discussion turns to a subject that many founders only begin to think about once their ventures start gaining traction: intellectual property.
The conversation will be led by Hilda Wamono, a lawyer whose work through IP Aware Africa is grounded in a simple conviction — that intellectual property is not just a legal matter, but a tool for economic development. Her work focuses on making IP accessible to entrepreneurs, women and young innovators who are often the last to hear about the protections and opportunities available to them.
Across African cities, founders are building faster than the systems meant to protect them can keep up. Questions about ownership, branding and protection often emerge only after a venture begins interacting with partners, customers or competitors.
For early-stage companies, intellectual property is more than a legal formality. It shapes how businesses structure collaborations, attract investment and maintain control over the ideas that drive their products.
During the discussion, Wamono will share practical insights on how startup teams can begin thinking about intellectual property earlier in their ventures. The session will unpack common misconceptions around IP and explore how founders can approach protection without losing focus on building and testing their ideas.
The event is open to both in-person and virtual participants. For those able to attend the in-person event at the National ICT Innovation Hub in the Kampala suburb of Nakawa, the room will offer something a screen cannot — the chance to put your specific situation to Wamono directly and connect with other founders navigating the same questions. Networking and open Q&A will follow the discussion.
