StartHub Africa is inviting applications for the first intake of 50 founding members of FLAVOR Kampala, a subsidised shared food production facility in Bukoto, Uganda. The initiative will help food and beverage entrepreneurs access production equipment, improve product quality and explore market opportunities.
About FLAVOR Kampala
FLAVOR stands for Food Lab for African Ventures and Opportunities for Resilient Women. The initiative is implemented by StartHub Africa in partnership with Uganda’s Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development under the GROW Project, financed by the World Bank. The facility will provide approximately 200 square metres of shared production space, equipped with machinery to support food processing and product development.
Facilities and Business Support
Selected entrepreneurs will have access to:
- Shared production equipment: Machinery for activities such as roasting, baking, drying, blending and packaging, depending on the final equipment installed.
- Product development support: Guidance from food scientists on formulations, product quality and food safety.
- Standards guidance: Support in understanding requirements for Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) certification.
- Market opportunities: Product showcases, market days, customer connections and opportunities for top participants to join a pilot distribution service.
- Peer learning: Connections with other food producers and entrepreneurs.
Who Can Apply?
The programme primarily targets food and beverage businesses operating in Kampala, particularly women-led enterprises.
Priority will be given to businesses already producing and selling, although entrepreneurs developing products or seeking prototyping facilities may also apply.
Applicants must be willing to use the facility regularly, complete mandatory equipment inductions, share basic business information and pay the applicable charges.
Participation Costs
FLAVOR Kampala is a subsidised facility, not a free production programme.
Participants must pay an annual subscription and per-unit production charges. The organiser has not specified the amounts in the announcement.
