Uganda Youth Internet Governance Forum Hackathon 2026 — UGX 2,000,000 Prize Pool for Youth-Led Internet Governance Solutions [Deadline: July 7]

Ugandan youth innovators and developers are invited to register for the Uganda Youth Internet Governance Forum (UYIGF) Hackathon 2026 — a team-based competition challenging participants to design and build working prototypes that close the internet governance awareness gap among young people in Uganda. Organised in partnership with the Internet Society Uganda Chapter, the hackathon carries a total prize pool of UGX 2,000,000, including a Grand Prize of UGX 1,000,000.

The Challenge

Internet governance shapes how the internet is accessed, regulated, and used — covering AI policy, data protection, cybersecurity law, and digital rights. Yet most Ugandan youth, including digitally active students and young professionals, have little to no awareness of these processes or how to engage with them.

Teams are challenged to design and build a working prototype that helps young people understand internet governance, access digestible and localised content on key governance issues, and engage with or track ongoing governance processes in Uganda and globally.

Suggested Solution Directions:

• Interactive learning platforms or microlearning apps
• Gamified quizzes or simulations on digital rights and policy scenarios
• Chatbot or AI assistant explaining governance topics in plain language
• Localised content tools — local language translation, audio or video explainers
• Civic engagement dashboards tracking governance issues relevant to youth

Who Can Participate:

• Teams of 2 to 7 members
• All team members must be under 30 years of age
• Open to Ugandan youth including students and young professionals

How to Register:

1. Form a team of 2 to 7 members before registering
2. Designate one team member as Team Leader to complete the registration form at www.uigf.ug
3. Provide details for all team members — names, ages, gender, contacts, and institution or organisation — attached as a PDF
4. Submit a brief idea summary of no more than 200 words describing the proposed prototype and the internet governance challenge it addresses
5. Upon approval, teams receive instructions for an online pre-screening demonstration
6. Only teams that pass pre-screening will present at the UYIGF event on 28 July 2026
