African agricultural scientists, extension specialists and educators can apply for the African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship 2026, which provides $5,000 grants to support education, training and communication initiatives that improve soil fertility management and plant nutrient use across Africa.
The fellowship supports professionals working to address knowledge gaps and promote better agricultural practices through research outreach, farmer training, communication tools and other initiatives that improve nutrient management in African farming systems.
About the Fellowship
The African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship is designed to support professionals helping farmers, researchers and agricultural stakeholders improve the efficiency and sustainability of plant nutrient use.
Award recipients will use the funding to develop outreach activities, training programmes, information resources or other initiatives that accelerate the adoption of improved soil fertility management practices.
The fellowship is particularly interested in projects aligned with priority areas such as:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship
- Nutrient and Water Management Innovations for Resilient Agriculture in African Drylands
- Soil Health, Nutrient Management and Diagnostics
- Precision Farming
- Farmer-led On-farm Innovation
Grant Funding
Each successful applicant will receive $5,000 USD to support approved outreach and implementation activities.
Funding may support activities such as:
- Developing communication materials
- Conducting training events
- Synthesising agricultural data and research
- Supporting travel related to outreach activities
- Implementing new education initiatives
Who Can Apply
The fellowship is open to:
- Full-time scientists
- Extension specialists
- Educators
Applicants must be working at one of the following:
- African National Agricultural Research and Extension System (NARES) institutions
- Universities
- Non-profit organisations
- Private sector organisations
Students are not eligible for this award.
Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A proposal describing how the fellowship will improve outreach or implementation of soil fertility management practices
- Details of planned activities, including research synthesis, communication tools, training events or travel supported by the funding
- Two letters of support, including one from the applicant’s supervisor
- A CV highlighting academic qualifications and relevant publications or communication work
- A final report explaining how funds were used and the outcomes achieved
